February 19, 2001 Acccording to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, domestic sales of motorcycles in Taiwan for the year 2000 were down by 6.26 percent over the previous year. Records of the issuance of new motorcycle licenses show that 767,383 of these vehicles were sold in Taiwan last year. The leader in sales was Kwang Yang Motor Co., Ltd., with 247,933 motorcycles sold (up 3.3 percent over 1999), while Sanyang Industry Co., Ltd. came in second with 220,182 (down 17.3 percent from 1999). Yamaha Motor Taiwan Co., Ltd. was third with 218,880 (down approximately 11 percent over 1999), and Tai Ling Motor Co., Ltd. was fourth with 43,048 (up 4.6 percent over 1999).
