February 19, 2001 In a recent announcement, Yamaha Motor Taiwan Co. reported that the company expects to export 200,000 motorcycles within the next five years. This would be an increase from the current total of 50,000 motorcycles exported yearly. Yamaha Motor still plans to focus on the domestic market, even though recent figures have not been as good as in previous years, but the company will also put more emphasis on the international market, said a company spokesperson. Last year Yamaha Motor sold 218,880 motorcycles domestically, a decrease from 1999 totals. Reports say that future development plans for the company, with assistance from the Japan-based Yamaha, could include expanding Yamaha Motor Taiwan's role as a motorcycle research and development center and overseas production base for scooters 150 cc and under.
