Export Performance

A major manufacturer and exporter of cylinders, cylinder heads, piston, piston rings and crankshaft for motorcycle engines, Sheng-E Enterprise Development Co. made a gain of 30 percent in export in 2006 compared with those registered a year earlier.

In the first quarter of 2007, the company enjoyed even better performance in export, registering 40 percent growth compared with the same period the year before.

King Hsieh, president of Sheng-E Enterprise, attributed the significant export increase to new product introduction and increased orders from existing and new customers.

Compared with two years back, Japan , Europe and the United States have become key markets for products offered by Sheng-E Enterprise, founded more than two decades ago in Tainan, southern Taiwan .

Quality upgrade

"We have made a lot of efforts on upgrading our product quality over the last few years, resulting in improved quality aimed at more advanced countries such as Japan , Europe and the U.S. ," said King Hsieh.

The president said great improvements have been made on the hoursepower of Sheng-E Enterprise's cylinder heads and on the torque of crankshafts. "Higher-end cylinder heads and crankshafts are in greater demand in the industrialized nations, particularly in car racing," added King Hsieh.

Cylinder heads

He said cylinder heads remain the backbone of his products, accounting for 60 to 70 percent of its total revenues, with the remaining 30 to 40 percent generated from piston and piston rings, and crankshafts.

The president said the Fuzhou, Fujian province, China factory, established in 1992, has been manufacturing pistons and connecting rods for export to countries in Southeast Asia. Around 1,200 workers are being employed at the Fuzhou plant.

In 1995, the company set up another factory in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, southern China , for the production of cylinders. More than 300 workers are on the payroll. High-end cylinders are made at its head factory in Tainan, and exported to Europe, Japan and the United States .

To meet global market demand for precision cylinder heads and crankshafts, King Hsieh said he is in the process of purchasing more sophisticated equipment.
